I know what it is like to be an immigrant. I’ve been to a world different from the world I usually know. Beginning a new life, learning different cultures, and losing the world I came from. Before living here in America, I was raised in the Philippines. Two years ago, my life was completely different from what my life is right now.

Being an immigrant is a whole lot of learning. When I got to America, I had to learn their culture and adopt it. I had to get used to how their school worked. Schools in America are totally different from schools in the Philippines. In the Philippines, we don’t switch classes and stay in just one classroom. My first day in school was a mess. I didn’t know anyone and I had to speak in a language I’ve never spoken daily. But things turned out well luckily.

Every immigrant encounters a situation where they feel lost and lonely. I know what it is like to miss your friends and your relatives. You always get the feeling of “ homesick”. But when life pulls you down, you have to push yourself up. So what I do is I ignore it and try to focus on more important things.
